4 Ways to Deal With Stress in 1 minute or Less..

Anyone who heads to work on that long commute everyday knows exactly how all those things feel when a new project is slammed onto their desk with a deadline looming. The good news is that you don’t have to stay stressed, and even if the work that lands on your desk comes with a hefty deadline, you don’t have to panic.

It’s not just work that gives us those awful anxiety attacks. Stress manifests in different ways for different people and it comes from various places. Pause what you’re doing and take some deep Yoga breaths in through the nose and blow it back out through the mouth. Do this until you feel your heart rate slow down and the panic recede.

2. Get Perspective

Put your stress into context. Ask yourself whether the situation that you are dealing with right now is going to be a factor in your life in a week, a month, a year’s time. If the answer is no, that perspective can help you to realize that you don’t actually need to panic as much as you think.

3. Code Brown 

If you’re a Harry Potter fanatic like me, you’ll remember Professor Lupin giving his students chocolate when they are afraid. Well, in real life you won’t be meeting Dementors, but if your stress was making you feel cold, scared and panicked, then chocolate would be the cure. Who doesn't love chocolate?! A square of good quality dark chocolate can distract your senses from your brain screaming about fires that need to be put out. Also, chocolate releases chemicals that can make you calm down: science, yo!

4. Laugh

Sounds a bit cliche', I know. But being in a situation that makes you feel boxed in and suffocated can be very difficult to get out of in your head, so you need to change your feelings. Get yourself onto YouTube and check out some of those crazy cat videos or scare cam videos that trigger that giggle. You need to release some endorphins, and short of jogging on the spot as fast as you can, a laugh can give you what you need.
