Weekend Trippin' - New York City

Weekend Getaway - New York City

Since I’ve been working tirelessly promoting my debut self-published novel Dilemmas Of a Damsel, I’ve put any major travel plans on hold. Lord knows that I would love to have my toes in the sand while listening to the waves and sipping a huge strawberry margarita.(Sacrifices people, sacrifices!) However, with my boyfriend’s birthday coming up I opted for the next best thing: a quick weekend getaway. Being from the Philadelphia area, the main options were D.C. and New York. I instantly decided on NYC. Don’t get me wrong, I love D.C. but New York City is one of my absolute favorite places to visit in the summer. What’s not to love rooftop parties, walks in Central Park, and shopping on 5th Avenue?

So off to NYC we went, and man was it fun! New York City – I don’t think there are enough words in the dictionary that can describe this place. It’s one of those magical cities that people go to reinvent themselves, or even better, rediscover themselves. As the city that never sleeps, there’s always something to get into. I’ll never forget my first trip to the Big Apple. I was in 3rd grade, my uncle and his girlfriend took me to a Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall. I was I hooked. Now much older (and I like to think wiser), New York is the place I go to let loose and have a good time. I mean how can you not? There are so many places and things you can get lost in at any given moment!

Let’s just say our weekend getaway was much needed.  I wanted to share with you all some of the highlights from our trip…

1.       Museum Of Modern Art (MoMA)

My boyfriend is an artist (swoon), so going to the museum was kind of a no brainer. I knew MoMA was one of his favorites so I made sure I took him there. If you are in the NYC area, you should definitely check this place out. I loved the building’s architecture and selection. Some of my favorite pieces to see were from artists Samuel Fosso (Untitled from the series African Spirits) and Dan Graham (Child’s Play).

2.     Little Prince

Our first day there, we decided to just walk around and explore the city. By dinnertime, we were starving and found a little gem right in SoHo. Behold – Little Prince! I instantly fell in love with this place. Not only was it super cute and intimate -the food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance was on point. By the time we got our check I was more than satisfied, but I was beside myself when the waiter gave us our check in a vintage French novel! I’m all about impactful subtleties and this did not disappoint. Bravo Little Prince, bravo!

3.       Times Square

We ended the night with a few drinks at our hotel’s rooftop lounge. Then, at some point we ended up in Times Square at like 3 am (not my idea). I think my favorite thing about Times Square was all the randomness! There were random people and random things going on all around me and it seemed like it wasn’t going to stop any time soon.

I'd say the weekend was a sure success! Not only did my boyfriend enjoy having a change of scenery, I came back feeling rejuvenated and most of all inspired to continue tackling my goals. In fact, we're already planning our next trip to the Big Apple.
