That One Time in L.A...

When I think of the gem known as Los Angeles, California, I think of glitz & glam. Like, as soon as you step foot off the plane you’ll be welcomed with a bunch of glitter and a kick-ass martini. When I was younger, I always imagined coming to this place. It was something about the great weather, beautiful homes, and just being in close proximity with the rich and famous that always appealed to me. As I got older, I guess I became an adult at some point and punked out (life happens). But luckily for me, my younger, beautiful, and ambitious sister took over the reins and I couldn’t be more excited. Because as of 2017, I not only had a reason to visit the City of Angels, I had a place to stay, and even better - someone to explore the city with! I couldn’t wait to turn one of my childhood fantasies into reality. In fact, it took me about two months to book my trip after my sister officially moved (had to let her get somewhat settled in). Well it’s been about a week or so since I returned from the west and man was it memorable! So, for all of you dreamers like myself that have taken forever and a damn day to venture out west, here are some of my most memorable moments/discoveries aka reasons you should book your flight ASAP...

1.     This really is La-La land…

And I totally get it, trust me I do. I think I was there for about three whole hours before I started displaying the symptoms myself. I found myself just in bliss, living in my own fantasy world and I loved it. Whether it was partying it up at the Abbey, getting cocktails at Sur, enjoying hookah at Secret, having brunch at The Federal, or hanging out with cute models and actors I woke up every single day ready and eager to just enjoy life without a care in the world.

2.     Salsa & Beer…

Three simple words changed my life. SALSA. AND. BEER. This godsend is an amazing Mexican restaurant located in North Hollywood, and man was it one of the highlights of my trip. Let's be clear, I LOVE food. In fact, a big part of traveling to me is to be able to discover and enjoy local favorites. And boy, did I enjoy! With only $25 I had the ultimate dining experience. So much so, I was so immersed in my food when it arrived that I forgot to take pics and show evidence (sorry guys - you're just going to have to take my word for it). If you're ever in LA be sure to check this place out! Because not only is the food amazing, the vibe was great, staff was friendly and the drinks were strong. Who doesn't love that?

3.     I HATE working out, but not in LA…

Anyone that knows me knows that I hate working out. Yes I know, it’s necessary if I want to maintain my snatched figure, have good health, and blah blah blah. But I just don’t like it! Normally I try to go to the gym at least twice a week for 30 minutes. And let me tell you I am over my life while I’m doing so. I just like to get in, get out and go the hell home. However, while in LA, I surprised myself by not only working out while on vacation, but WANTING to and having the nerve to enjoy it! First of all, I conquered Runyon Canon! My calf muscles were sore for days from trekking up this steep monster of a trail - just high enough to see the Hollywood sign in clear view. I'll admit that I stopped a few times, however, I felt so accomplished and motivated once it was over. But wait, it doesn’t stop there. While checking out Venice Beach, my sister and I decided to rent bicycles. We figured that not only would it be a great way to sight-see, it would be a lot of fun, and we could burn off those calories we drank the night before. All I can say is: I love Venice Beach. There is so much going on from the amazing skate park, to the graffiti, diverse street vendors and of course muscle beach! I secretly told myself if I lived there, I’d happily work out every day with no complaints.

Although my desire to move to LA has become a thing of my past, it is one of those places I most definitely look forward to visiting again. Because not only do I plan to get another Salsa & Beer fix, go for round two at Runyon, and shop on Rodeo Drive, I know that there are so many things that I have yet to discover. So, until next time LA! You beautiful, crowded, glitzy city you…
