Get Clear on Your Purpose and Passion in Life
Living a life filled with purpose and passion is something that I think many aspire to. Unfortunately, at times, it can be so confusing. Most of us know what we’re passionate about, because our emotional reactions to the things we think about, interact with and do tell us how we feel. And, it’s natural to constantly pursue what feels good to us. That being said, a lot of people are not aware of the purpose of their life. That’s because our purpose in life and what we’re passionate about are two different things.
Step One: Understand the Difference Between Purpose and Passion
As I stated earlier, many people make the mistake of thinking purpose and passion are the same. The problem with this is that you can end up doing something you’re passionate about thinking that it’s your purpose, but still end up feeling unfulfilled. Yes, your purpose can fuel your passions, but not the other way around. I know that I was once guilty of this as well. But, by definition, these are two very different things.
Purpose is the reason something is created. It’s the WHY of your life. Your purpose has less to do with you and more to do with how your existence will impact the greater good.
Passion is defined as a strong barely controllable emotion. It’s the WHAT that’s driven by your actions. Passion is all about you and what you’re feeling internally.
Even though they’re different things, the two can align and reinforce one another. The ultimate goal is to create a life where your purpose and passion intersect! That starts with discovering your purpose.
Step Two: Unlock Your Purpose
Here’s the thing about purpose: we’ve all got one.
You, my friend, were put on this earth for a reason! Do you understand that? No matter what or how big or small the reason… you were created ON PURPOSE.
Many people make the mistake of ignoring their life’s calling. But, you should want to unleash it. Because, when you discover your purpose, you act, think and more importantly, LIVE with intention. Your purpose isn’t what you WANT to do, it’s what you were CALLED to do.
But here’s the thing, no matter how much you read up on purpose and how great knowing what yours is can be… you’re only going to unlock your purpose by looking within! Your purpose lives within you.
However, because I just loveeeee helping people realize their greatness, I have a great tool that can help you discover your purpose and bring some clarity to your life! Download the “Glowing on Purpose” workbook here Glowing on Purpose.
Step Three: Discover Your Passion(s)
As far as finding your passion goes, the sky’s the limit! You can have as many passions as you want. Just understand that your passions can and will change over time. Passion is all about doing what fuels you and makes you feel good! This can come from your skills, hobbies, interests, values, or culture.
Be careful though, it is not wise to tie your passions to the wrong things like money, fame, etc.
Discovering your passions has everything to do with trying things, putting yourself out there, asking questions and tuning into how those things make you feel. You’d be amazed at how many things might light a fire within you once you’re willing to put yourself out there and try something new.
Also, here are a few things you can do:
- Make a list of the things you love doing.
- Assess your skills and what you’re good at.
- Try to identify the things that come easily to you?
- Identify your goals.
- What do you desire for yourself and your life?
And that’s all folks! Remember, understanding your purpose and passions requires openness, mindfulness, and patience with yourself! You can do it.
